WHAT WINE GOES WITH LAMB?
WINES THAT GO WITH LAMB!
Lamb is a rich flavored meat that waters the mouth just thinking about it. Wine goes with lamb like the sun goes with springtime. And there is not a red wine that is not elevated by the rich gently gamey taste. Spring is lamb season, but with controlled farming, one can find young lamb throughout the year.
Strong red wine is particularly delicious with lamb, depending on the preparation, spices, and your mood. Here are some recommendations, but I would suggest mixing it up. While these may serve as a starting point, the variations beg for exploration.
For instance, if you prepare a Moroccan or Indian Curry lamb like Rogan Josh, the dish will be screaming for a Dry Gewurztraminer. But if you prepare the same cut marinated in wine, mint, rosemary, garlic and soy sauce overnight, then grilled, Pinot noir will be the perfect complement. So wine and lamb are perfectly matched; enjoy the possibilities.
